Folias Flute and Guitar Duo

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Trained in classical, jazz, and tango, the husband and wife duo Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron of Folias perform and compose music that blends concert chamber music with folk music, especially dance music from South America. Folias was founded in 2003 and is current based in Grand Rapids, MI where they remain a vibrant musical force in the community through their work with the Grand Rapids Tango Community, the MAJIC Concert Series, the Grand Rapids Guitar Quartet and through their collaborative groups and such as the Folias Latin Dance Project, a two flutes guitar and percussion group, Tango Folias, a tango quartet specializing in Argentine Tango music for dancers, and Trio Folias, a nationally touring tango group that performed a United States tour in 2007.

Folias has three CD releases on the independent classical music label, Blue Griffin Recording, based in Lansing, MI. Their first CD Tango Metamophoses (2004) featured original Argentine tango arrangements, and Andrew Bergeron’s world premier recording of The Three Metamorphoses for flute and guitar. Their 2006 CD release, Marufo Vega, includes Folias’ collaborative composition the Despoblado Suite for flute, alto flute, piccolo, and guitar as well as traditional Argentine tango arrangements and two works by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Their third CD, Waterway, features all original music by Folias inspired by their work around Lake Superior.
