Great Lakes Is Here — And We’re Pressing Vinyl

Folias Duo Great Lakes is our ninth album, and it’s the most ambitious thing we’ve made. It’s a set of original compositions for flutes and guitar inspired by each of the five Great Lakes — composed, recorded, and now headed to press.

Folias Music releases the album on August 14, 2026 on all streaming platforms. We’re running a Kickstarter right now to fund 300 CDs and, for the first time in our career, 100 vinyl records.

Where It Came From

In 2022, Andrew composed a solo guitar piece on the northern shore of Lake Michigan. That became the seed of the whole album — one lake at a time, outward from there.

We also recorded at Oktaven Audio in Mt. Vernon, New York, with producer Charles Mueller. The instrumentation ranges from C flute and piccolo to alto and bass flute, classical guitar, and Guinean tambin.

  • Locust Storm — rock-inflected guitar opening into baroque-inspired rhythmic writing, inspired by historical locust plagues
  • The Way Through — piccolo with guitar textures drawn from Chilean nueva canción
  • Lake Ontario — Guinean tambin, groove-driven, rooted in West African tradition
  • Lake Huron — Saharan blues-inspired grooves on alto flute with baroque structural clarity
  • Lake Superior — the centerpiece; C flute, alto flute, piccolo, and guitar
  • Lake Erie — a solo flute piece that reflects the lake’s restless energy
  • Lake Michigan — Andrew’s long-form solo guitar work
  • And Blaze the Butterflies — composed by Carmen, inspired by Emily Dickinson, scored for three flutes and guitar

The Folias Duo Great Lakes Kickstarter

Finally, the music is done — recorded, mixed, and mastered. We’re raising $1,900 to cover the cost of physical production. Every backer makes the physical release happen directly.
