Welcome! Our Folias Music GO Series is a monthly live-streamed concert with Folias Duo alongside musical guests who play fresh, undiscovered, and newly written music for soloists and small groups. We started the GO Series in 2020 to keep connecting with musicians and audiences, and we’re excited about the continued availability of broadcasting technologies for independent artists. The 2021-22 season presents musicians from Chicago, Grand Rapids, Los Angeles, and Detroit who play will play classical, world, jazz, and improvisational-based music.
These concerts are free, but your support is essential for us to keep presenting these concerts. We suggest a $10 – $20 per person donation for the concerts. You can also support Folias Music at the virtual merchandise table.
We are going to WOW you with this opening season, tag team, flute and guitar duo concert! The Silver-Rose duo of Chicago-based musicians Kim Fleuchaus and Julie Goldberg collaborate with composers around the United States to commission new works for flute and guitar. They have put together a special program called “Home and Away” of music inspired by travel, distant places, and the joy of returning home. Learn More
We welcome our Grand Rapids, MI colleagues Jonathan Marshall and Samuel Gould to perform this interesting combination of guitar and percussion. Their program features music by the Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz, J.S. Bach, and Brazilian composer Luis Bonfa. Learn More
We’re excited to present guitar virtuoso TY Zhang! You’ll love hearing his glorious guitar playing and seeing his warm, charming presence. We hosted TY back in 2019 when he performed in Grand Rapids, MI for his Guitar Foundation of America tour. Luck would have it that the “polar vortex” came through that week. The concert was rescheduled, so we got to hang out for a week. We ate TY’s delicious cooking, took him skiing for the first time, and sat around philosophizing about music. There are going to be some special vibes coming through from his home in Los Angeles! Learn More
We’ve been following Michael Malis for a while since we heard his project Balance with saxophonist Marcus Elliot. For this concert, Michael will feature original music from his August 2021 album Imperfect Intervals which came about from the process of recording a “sound diary” of improvisations the past year and a half. We admire Michael’s versatility as a musician, composer, improviser, and player. We’ve thrilled to present him from his hometown of Detroit for our final concert of the season. Learn More
